This meeting was dedicated to gathering ideas/feedback on a community vision for Whitneyville.
Question: What kind of community do you want to live in?
- walkable neighborhood — to be able to get to place without driving
- amenities like a library, grocery store, etc.
- safe
- green spaces & access to parks
- care/concern for others, senior-friendly
- openness
- options for public transportation
- traffic control- – speed bumps/tables
- diverse — architecturally, politically, etc.
What needs are we not meeting?
- More businesses & parking on Whitney Ave.
- Traffic control — pedestrian safety
- Neighborhood health and well-being — build structures for people and businesses to thrive (think in generations)
- Need for community gatherings/conversations for opportunities to connect with neighbors — block parties, soup nights, etc.
Focus on 1-2 core issues:
- Safety
- Traffic (speeds), lack of sidewalks/condition of sidewalks, lack of bike infrastructure
- Bridge community divides, build upon community building
- Improve police/community communication
- Businesses/commercial area
- More parking
- Better lighting
- Improved signage — “welcome to whitneyville”
- Build a distinct Whitneyville identity/brand
- Create a community guide
- Emphasize the historic aspects of the neighborhood & uplift community stories
- Green spaces — more of them
