Town Engineer Stephen White discussed several upcoming infrastructure improvements planned for Hamden.

  • Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Device (ATESD) Program
  • Whitney Ave Road Diet
    • CT is doing the work but Town is helping publicize the changes
    • Plan will reduce crash rate 19-49%
    • Plan will turn Whitney Ave into one lane traveling in both directions, with an alternating middle turning lane
    • Road Diet happening this summer; forthcoming Town public meeting

  • Waite and Mather Bridges Replacement
  • Walkable Sidewalks
    • For priorities: Treadwell, Augur, Davis, and Benham
    • Approval is planned for FY26 with construction in FY27
    • Augur – Will install a contra bike lane on Augur to go against the flow of traffic; Will retain parking)
    • Treadwell – New sidewalk installation between Martin Terrace and Marne Street; New pedestrian bridge over Lake Whitney; Plan does not include bike lanes; Roads likely will stay open during construction
    • Davis – Construct new sidewalk between Rodgers Road and Hartford Turnpike; New crosswalk installation at East Rock Park entrance; Construct new sidewalk between Ridge Road and Rodgers Road; Will install radar speed awareness sign
